About the West Arapahoe Conservation District

In June 1949, the PCC Aurora site land was deeded to the West Arapahoe Soil Conservation District (WASCD), now called the West Arapahoe Conservation District (WACD). Soil Conservation Districts—special units of government established during the dust bowl years—were charged with helping farmers and ranchers implement federally recommended range conservation practices. WACD used the initial 1920-acre land deed to establish the Plains Conservation Center and PCC became the educational unit of the WACD.

In January 2007, The Plains Conservation Center split from the WACD. The WACD contracts with the non-profit PCC to provide WACD's education programs.

West Arapahoe Conservation District residents are eligible for special District services, for example, weed barrier machine rental.
